Custom Brass Turned Parts: Precision Machining for Connector Pins, Terminals & Components

Looking for precision brass turned parts? VOLCRIX specializes in custom brass connector pins, terminals, and machined components. ±0.01mm tolerance, fast turnaround, ISO-compliant quality control.

Brass is one of those materials that every Swiss turning shop works with daily, but not all shops handle it well. We’ve been cutting brass on our Citizen and Tsugami machines for over 35 years, so here’s what you need to know about getting precision brass turned parts that actually meet your tolerances.

Why Brass for Precision Turned Parts?

Brass (specifically free-cutting brass like C36000 or C38500) is the go-to material for connector pins, terminals, valve components, and electrical fittings for a reason. It machines beautifully — fast cycle times, excellent surface finish straight off the tool, and good electrical conductivity. Unlike stainless steel that work-hardens or aluminum that gums up tools, brass practically begs to be cut.

For EV charging pins specifically, certain brass alloys offer the right balance of conductivity, spring properties, and machinability that you can’t get from copper alone. We routinely run C36000, C46400 (naval brass), and custom-leaded brasses depending on the application.

What We Can Do with Brass

Here’s the short version of what comes off our Swiss machines daily:

  • Connector pins & terminals — for EV charging, industrial connectors, and automotive harnesses
  • Threaded fittings & adapters — pneumatic, hydraulic, and fluid handling
  • Valve components — poppets, stems, seats, and metering parts
  • Electrical contacts — relay contacts, switch components, battery terminals
  • Small mechanical parts — spacers, bushings, inserts, and custom fasteners
  • Pneumatic fittings — push-in fittings, quick-connect bodies, and ferrule nuts

Part sizes range from 1mm diameter up to 32mm bar stock, with lengths up to 300mm on our sliding headstock machines.

Tolerances You Can Expect from Brass Turning

Brass is dimensionally stable and doesn’t move after cutting, so we hold tighter tolerances on brass than on most other materials. Standard is ±0.01mm on diameter and position tolerances. For critical dimensions like press-fit diameters or mating surfaces, we can push to sub-0.01mm with CMM verification on every batch.

The key advantage with brass is thermal stability. Unlike aluminum that expands noticeably during cutting, or stainless that warps from residual stress, brass parts come off the machine at dimension and stay there. That means fewer rejected parts and more consistent quality across production runs.

Surface Finishing for Brass Turned Parts

Brass parts can be delivered in several conditions depending on your application:

  • As-machined — bright gold finish, typically Ra 0.4-0.8 μm
  • Nickel plating — for corrosion resistance and a matte silver appearance
  • Silver plating — for electrical contacts requiring low contact resistance
  • Tin plating — for solderability and mild corrosion protection
  • Passivation / anti-tarnish — clear coating to prevent brass from darkening over time
  • Polishing & buffing — for decorative applications where appearance matters

We handle all of these in-house or through our trusted finishing partners, so you get one set of QC paperwork, not three.

Common Applications Across Industries

EV Charging: Brass charging pins with silver or nickel plating for CCS, NACS, and GB/T connectors. The brass core provides strength and conductivity while the plating handles the wear and environmental protection.

Industrial Connectors: Circular connector pins, rectangular connector terminals, and custom signal contacts — all precision-turned from brass bar stock on Swiss machines.

Pneumatics & Hydraulics: Brass fittings, valve bodies, and metering components that require leak-free sealing surfaces. The machinability of brass makes it ideal for complex internal geometries.

Automotive: Sensor housings, fuel system components, brake system fittings — anything under the hood that needs to resist corrosion and hold dimension through temperature cycles.

Why VOLCRIX for Brass Turned Parts?

Three things that matter when you’re sourcing brass turned parts from China:

  1. Material sourcing — We buy brass bar stock from verified mills with material certs that trace back to the original melt. No mixing grades, no substituting alloys without approval.
  2. Process control — Every production run includes first-article inspection, in-process checks at defined intervals, and final CMM reporting per your drawing requirements.
  3. Lead times — Prototypes in 5-10 working days, production runs in 3-4 weeks. DDP shipping to US and EU addresses available.

We’ve been doing this since 1990. Not a startup, not a trading company — a manufacturing shop with 35+ years of Swiss turning experience, serving customers across automotive, industrial, medical, and EV markets.

If you’ve got a brass turned part you need quoted, send us the drawing. We’ll come back with pricing and a realistic delivery date.
